Crime Log: SB man sentenced to five years for stabbing his father

A Seal Beach man was sentenced on Friday, April 6, to five years in prison for the attempted murder of his father.

Dalton Aguirre, 23,  will also have to pay restitution to his victim.

Aguirre was originally charged with attempted murder and three sentencing “enhancements”—attempted premeditated murder, using a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily harm.

However, Aguirre pled guilty to the attempted murder charge on Tuesday, March 13. None of the other charges are currently listed on the Orange County Superior Court website. The case never went to trial.

Aguirre’s guilty plea came roughly one year and five months after he reportedly stabbed his father multiple times in the head and torso in the then 51-year-old victim’s 10th Street home.

While Aguirre was sentenced to five years, he won’t actually serve that much time.

“The defendant was sentenced to five years in state prison and received 628 days of credit for time served and conduct,” said Farrah Emami, spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

For the moment, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website says Aguirre is in custody in the sheriff’s Theo Lacy Facility, a maximum security jail complex located in the city of Orange.
