Crime Log Correction: probation unrelated to Rossmoor invasion

The Sun incorrectly reported that a young man was convicted in connection with a Rossmoor home invasion in the Aug. 2 Crime Log.

The defendant was actually convicted of receiving stolen goods in an unrelated criminal case.

Tyler James Compton on July 14 pled guilty to being under the influence of a controlled substance. In a separate case, he also pled guilty to receiving stolen goods and second degree burglary.

However, the guilty pleas were unrelated to Rossmoor home invasion case of Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011.

According to Farah Emami, spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Compton pled guilty to receiving stolen goods at a party that he attended.

Compton was arrested and charged with the robbery the day after it occurred.

He was eventually charged with six counts stemming from both that incident and the party.

Emami said that the Orange County Sheriff’s Department continued investigating the case after Compton’s arrest and as a result, the charges stemming from the Rossmoor case were dismissed. Compton will, as previously reported, have to serve three years probation and spend a year in the county jail.
