City Council passes new vacation rental ban

The Seal Beach City Council passed on second reading an ordinance that permanently bans vacation rentals at the agency’s Tuesday, Nov. 13, meeting.

The ordinance applies to new vacation rentals. Several property owners have vacation rental properties that are working their way through the conditional use permit process required under the previous version of the Seal Beach municipal code.

That same night, Councilwoman Ellery Deaton asked staff to place the subject of fishing on the Seal Beach Pier on a future council agenda.

The council received and filed a staff report on the status of storm drain improvements in the city. Public Works Director/Assistant City Manager Sean Crumby said the need for improvements was greater than the funds available.
