For the third year in a row, on Small Business Saturday, the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce is selling ornaments to raise money to fund the tree-lighting ceremony, held at Eisenhower Park Nov. 24.
The sale of large, colorful, foam-board ornaments with the words “To: Seal Beach Community; From: [the donor’s name, organization or family]” will help to pay for the 25 foot tall tree, and will hang proudly from it’s boughs.
In 2011, about 1,200 people attended the tree-lighting ceremony. The 2012 ceremony will again include real snow (twice as much as last year), thanks to Run Seal Beach, a snow man building contest, an area for small children (5 years and under) to enjoy the snow without getting trampled, and a separate snow ball pile just for the older kids.
Tini Gray will be performing once again.
The Los Alamitos Choir will be singing, the children will have popcorn and a movie in Eisenhower Park, hot chocolate and pastries will be available for sale to the public, and of course Santa will be there for photo opportunities with the kids. There will be children’s photos with Santa.
We will also have a toy drive to benefit Honoring Our Fallen.
Honoring Our Fallen, as part of its ongoing support for the fallen soldiers, has a bereavement program and supplies gifts to children of our fallen soldiers for Christmas and birthdays. If you could bring a new, unwrapped gift to give a child who has lost a parent, it would be much appreciated.
Local merchants have offered to help as well. Coming soon, 15% of sales for an advertised period of time will be donated towards the cost of the tree. Look for the specifics of the sale coming soon.
In 2011, the chamber sold 60 ornaments. Given the tremendous success and public response last year, we hope, with the help of the community, to double that this year. Large ornaments sell for $150 and the small family ornament is $25.
The deadline to donate is Nov. 12.
To order, click here for the form, fill it out and then fax it to 562-795-5637. Donors can also sign up in person at the Chamber of Commerce office at 201 8th St., Suite 120, Seal Beach, or visit us at the pier for the next few weekends to get your order in.
When the tree is taken down, donors can pick up their ornaments at the chamber office.
