Bettinger opens track season with records, heads to Indoor Nationals

Olivia Bettinger set a school record with a 12’5 vault, then bested it with a 12’9 clearing.

Junior Olivia Bettinger clinched the pole vault on February 24 at the 2024 Los Alamitos Track and Field season opener at Track Rabbit Relays hosted by Long Beach Poly, with a personal best jump of 12 feet. Olivia is coached by long-time pole vault coach Steve Tully, a former all-PAC-10 pole vaulter for Arizona State University. The 12-foot vault is the third best mark in Los Alamitos High School history.

In the second meet of the season, on Saturday at the Griffin Relays, Olivia bested her vault a week prior with three personal bests of 12’1, 12’5 (school record) and then 12’9, which is top outdoor jump in California this year.

This week, Olivia will be competing in the New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston with some of the top high school athletes in the nation. She is scheduled to compete on Sunday in the pole vault event.
