Be More Healthy Expo will be on at the pier

In 2012, according to a National Health Interview Survey, 11 percent of adults had been told by a doctor or other health professional that they had heart disease, 24 percent had been told on two or more visits that they had hypertension, 9 percent had been told they had diabetes, and 21 percent had been told they had some form of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus or fibromyalgia.

The good news is that 61 percent of the surveyed adults were in good health.  Perhaps you feel you are in the 61 percent category.  But are you? At the Seal Beach Health Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 in Eisenhower Park at the Seal Beach Pier,  you have a “golden opportunity” to find out the status of your health in many areas and all for FREE, besides enjoying a beautiful day at the beach!

Chairman, Diana Bean, herself a life fitness health coach through her business, “Take Shape for Life” says, “In Health Expo’s 7th year of successfully promoting its goal of creating awareness of personal health and to help those attendees understand the importance of seeking professionals to evaluate their personal health, on site screenings will be held for blood pressure; blood glucose; cholesterol,  BMI (body mass index); medication counseling; nutrition information; heart health information; heartburn awareness; diabetes information, hearing and eye screening and very importantly, stroke screening.  At the 2012, Expo, eight persons who received stroke screenings, due to the results, were advised to see their doctor immediately for further evaluation, perhaps saving their lives.

“We are grateful to have Centers For Family Health, Seal Beach Family Medical Group, Family Heath Care of Long Beach, Long Beach Memorial Community Hospital and Millers Children Hospital Long Beach as our  2014 Community Sponsors for the Expo, with an anticipated vendor field of 75 or more personal and health related businesses.

We will have Wellness Speakers, live entertainment and a ‘Be More Healthy’ Family area, complete with an obstacle course, face painting and many interactive activities for all …a day of fun and health information for your entire family.

I particularly like the health screenings because they really wake you up to where your current reality is with your health.  I learned 6 years ago how to change my health by losing 85lbs and making changes in my life style, so my passion for this event is to awaken the desire for others to make those fundamental shifts in their lives to discover their optimal health.

If the ‘Be More Healthy’ Expo can be a catalyst for this change, then it’s a ‘win-win!’”

Just for Leisure World seniors, starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m., there will be an all- day “continuous loop” shuttle service from the bus stop at the front entrance of Leisure World to the intersection of Ocean and 10th Street for easy access to the Health Expo and to all the health screenings and vendors.

This annual Health Expo, sponsored by the Seal Beach Chamber, City of Seal Beach and the Lions Club of Seal Beach, with an anticipated attendance of 4000 or more, promises to be a “must attend” event for everyone who truly believes, “My health and my family’s health comes first!”
