AUNT GERTIE on Tour: at Mt. Rushmore

I pulled up to the entry gate in my purple day dress and fuzzy purple hat with my cee-gar hangin’ out of my mouth!!  The lady guard smiled but her eyes were bugging out!!  I went to park and up pulls the security patrol — that she alerted, I’m sure!!  After telling them who I was they wanted a picture so out comes my sign, “Aunt Gertie loves Mt. Rushmore” and they snap away!  Then I’m on the pathway leading up the mountain and start noticing stares, chuckles and cameras taking my picture!  I stopped to use the bathroom and noticed this lady following me!  As soon as I came out of the stall she went crazy and wanted a picture right there.  Oh, my God!  I could not believe it!  So I pulled out my sign and smiled while she snapped away.  She was so excited she couldn’t even wait til I was out of the dadgum bathroom.  Sheesh!!

Mount Rushmore National Memorial was carved into a granite batholith formation in the Black Hills of South Dakota by Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum, starting in 1927 and ending in 1941.  It features four presidents:  George Washington (1732-1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865).  Our national treasure and symbol of the freedom America stands for is visited by 2 million people annually!!

Aunt Gertie says, “Put this on your bucket list and go see it! You will be so proud of our wonderful country!”
