A grand closing for Bob’s Rexall

Bob Griffith celebrated the end of an era with family, friends and former employees of Bob’s Rexall as he invited the community to enjoy a western-themed party on Saturday.

The event featured plenty of western style food such as sizzling bacon-wrapped hot dogs, refreshments including beer and wine in a haybaled-covered atmosphere with tents filled with hos’dourves and decorated with colorful balloons.

Grifith’s drug store at 141 Main Street had been a fixture in the sesaside city for 42 years.

The Grand Closing was held in the empty lot next to The Bay Theater for which Griffith recently received approval from the California Coastal Commission to build a two-story office building on that corner.

The lot had occupied the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Main, next door to the theater for some time. It had previously been occupied by a Chevron gas station, which the Coastal Commission approved to be demolished and its underground storage tanks to be removed.

Well-wishers from across the local political spectrum at the Grand Closing noted Grifiths’ down to earth style and reputation for generosity toward the Seal Beach community.
