According to Ed Laird, Bolsa Chica Conservancy Advisory Council member and former Huntington Beach planning commissioner: “It initially was owned by The Koll Company to use as a bargaining chip for the widening of Warner Avenue. Back then environmentalists who saved the Wetlands from development said the Warner Pond had significant reasons to be saved as it was a catch basin for runoff and rainwater!”
The Koll Company conceded and planned to deed it to the Conservancy, Laird said. “But they sold it was once again and now it’s forgotten. The highway department has expressed interest in using the parcel for the widening of Warner Ave. at some point in the future.” he said, but for now it sits with a little water part of the year and empty most of the time! “It’s the little pond nobody wants!”
