2013 Health Expo explores opportunities

There is nothing more important than having your health.

To that end, the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce’s sixth annual “Be More Healthy” expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, in Eisenhower Park, located at the foot of the Seal Beach pier.

The Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Seal Beach and the Seal Beach Lions Club, will present the event that promises to be the best health fair so far.

It boasts more vendors, sponsors, screenings and speakers—all focused on health, wellness and creating a vibrant community event.

“This year, I really knew how to get the community engaged,” said Diana Bean, co-chair of the event. “With returning sponsors, Dendreon and Seal Beach Family Medical and new, such as Clean Energy and Millers Children’s Hospital, we will have even more activities for children and our seniors. It is also a record year for vendors. Our current count is over seventy five.”

Featuring an expanded kids area on the “north side” of Eisenhower Park and a bounce house, kids should have a blast.

Miss Seal Beach and her court, having been newly crowned by then, will provide face painting.

Just for seniors, there will be a shuttle service running from Leisure World to the intersection of Ocean Avenue and 10th Street in Seal Beach for easy access to all the great screenings and vendors.

It will run departing Leisure World at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Some programming will be directed to their needs including a Silver Sneakers demo, In-home care services, Medicare information and assistive technology.

Cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, and other tests will be done. The speakers will also present everything ranging from fitness to nutrition for all stages of life.

Recently, on SBTV-3, Diana, when interviewed by the host, Jo Dawson on Studio Café, indicated her real passion is in helping people become more aware of their health. “During the course of last year’s stroke screenings, eight people were directed to see their doctors immediately,” she said. “I feel that in a way, we helped save those eight lives.”

New board member, Marah Feinberg of Wells Fargo Advisors, event chairwoman, said she was happy to have Diana running the show. “She has a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the Expo,” she said “We are really thankful to the City of Seal Beach and the Lions who help put on the event.”

The Seal Beach Lions Club will have its vision and hearing van in place, and Ocean Avenue will be closed from Main Street to 10th Street to accommodate all the great participants and sponsors.
