South Coast Orchid Society, serving orchid hobbyists in Long Beach and surrounding communities since 1950, will hold its annual Orchid Auction, 6:30-9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, at the Whaley Park Community Center, located at 5620 E. Atherton St., in Long Beach. Doors open for plant viewing at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. About 200 plants will be auctioned, with selections for beginners and experienced growers alike. Many can be grown outdoors in Southern California, and the Orchid Society can teach you how to do it.
