The Seal Beach Police Department plans two holiday season DUI checkpoints.
According to the SBPD Facebook page, the checkpoints will be held Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 and New Years Day, Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011.
The Friday checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m., Dec. 17 to 3 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18 on Pacific Coast Highway at 1st Street.
Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.
Officers working checkpoints are looking for intoxicated drivers, unlicensed drivers and seat belt violations.
The last checkpoint was held on Thanksgiving weekend.
Police towed 15 cars and arrested two drunk drivers.
The upcoming Seal Beach traffic checkpoints were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to the SBPD Facebook page, the state granted Seal Beach $75,000 for traffic checkpoints from November 2010 to September 2011.

Seal Beach Marine Safety report
The week of Friday, Dec. 3 to Thursday, Dec. 9, was quiet for Seal Beach Lifeguards.
There were zero rescues of individuals, zero boat rescues, zero major medical aid calls, zero stingray injuries and three ordinary medical aid calls.
“Lifeguards Ryan Tulay and Alex Parton are scheduled to complete a Marine Firefighting class on Friday Dec. 10,” the report said.
“The class is put on by the California Department of Boating and Waterways and hosted by the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Department,” the report said.
“The rest of the Marine Safety Department continues to patrol, train and maintain equipment in preparation for the upcoming winter storm season.”

Theft—10:22 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Someone used a citizen’s information to open a credit account. Loss: approximately $10,000.
Duck—12:18 p.m.—Galleon Way—The caller had an injured duck contained under a laundry basket in the alley to the rear of the location. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.
Wednesday, December 1
Grand Theft—9:02 a.m.—Catalina Avenue—Loss: a GPS unit taken off the dashboard of an open work truck. The caller provided police with information about a possible suspect. Report taken.
Coyote—5:48 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a coyote was running southbound on the beach. Information given to Long Beach Animal Care Services.
Burglary Report—6:53 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Loss: $450. The crime apparently occurred at 10 a.m. Report taken.
Thursday, December 2
Extra Patrol Checks Requested—1:13 p.m.—Avalon Drive—The caller requested extra patrol checks for dogs off their leashes. There were no dogs off their leashes at the time of the call, but the caller wanted police to know this was an on-going problem in the area.
Annoying Phone Call—3:22 p.m.—Crestview Avenue—The caller’s father received numerous phone calls from an individual claiming to be his grandson. The fake grandson requested money be wired to him. This is a common con game, often called the “grandparent” scam because the targets are often seniors with grandchildren. Report taken.
Coyote—5:46 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard and Landing Avenue—The caller, relaying second hand information, said a coyote was seen off Landing Avenue. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.
Friday, December 3
Traffic Stop—2:03 a.m.—405 Freeway and Seal Beach Boulevard—As a result of this traffic stop, an individual was arrested for driving under the influence.
Transient—7:56 a.m.—Westminster Avenue—The caller, a woman, said a homeless man followed her to her workplace. The homeless person knocked on the door to be let in. The caller had her doors locked.
The man was described as white, in his 40s, wearing a black ski jacket, black pants and a snow cap.
Injured Animal—8:58 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a black bird with a broken wing was on the water line. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.
Saturday, December 4
DUI—4:43 a.m.—12th Street—As a result of this call, an individual was arrested for driving under the influence. The fact someone has been arrested is not proof of guilt in the eyes of the law.
Sunday, December 5
Disturbance, Juveniles—1:59 a.m.—Avalon Drive—As it turned out, police services weren’t necessary.
The caller reported that there were several juveniles in the park with air soft guns. Police found students making a film with unloaded, plastic guns, clearly marked.
The minors were going to be finished in an hour. Counseled.

Tuesday, December 7
Suspicious Person—9:26 p.m.—Farquhar Avenue—A man crawled into bushes near a business and did not come out. Officers spoke with the man, who said he felt ill.
Officers assisted.
Wednesday, December 8
Fraud—9:38 a.m.—Essex Drive—A woman told police she had received information that credit cards had been opened in her name.
Report taken.
Friday, December 10
Suspicious Activity—7:45 a.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard and Cerritos Avenue—The caller saw something floating in the nearby flood control channel. Officers found a trash bag and a life jacket.
Saturday, December 11
Disturbance Subjects—4:31 p.m.—Reagan Street—A juvenile did not want to ride home with his father and the two had been arguing for several minutes. Officers spoke to the pair and the matter was resolved.
Sunday, December 12
Transient—6:10 p.m.—Katella Avenue—An individual who was loitering in the rear parking lot had reportedly tried to enter through the rear doors in the past. Subject had left the area before a police unit arrived.
