Briefing Room: Seal Beach Police Facebook page is back after an apparent hack

Hi Seal Beach!

If there’s one thing I’ve said over and over again during my time as the Seal Beach Police Department’s Public Information Officer, it has been that there is no call too small, and that the community should never hesitate to call us.

I stand by that and always want the community to feel like we are here for them, and that they can call us anytime on our non-emergency line at (562) 594-7232.

That being written, please don’t misconstrue what I’m about to write next.

Recently, we received 9-1-1 calls about our Seal Beach Police Department’s Facebook page being down.

For the last couple of weeks, our main SBPD Facebook account was hacked, and we believed it was deleted.

We worked closely with Facebook employees to try and obtain our page back but discovered an unknown individual compromised our account and deleted all our posts.

We know how important our Facebook page is to many, so in the meantime we created a new page while we worked with Facebook.

This week, Facebook was able to reinstate our original Seal Beach Police Department Facebook page and it is now alive and well again.

You’ll know it’s the correct account because on the main page, you’ll see a comical photograph of Santa Claus being arrested by one of our officers.

The temporary page we created will be deleted in the next couple of days so there shouldn’t be any more confusion.

Here’s the URL to our official page: https://www.facebook.com/SealBeachPoliceDepartment/.

To reiterate, for non-emergencies, please call us at (562) 594-7232 and for emergencies always call 9-1-1.  Do you have questions?  Please email me at askacop@sealbeachca.gov today!
