With Halloween approaching, lots of little ghosts and goblins will be out patrolling the streets this weekend, while others have already celebrated the haunted holiday with thematic costume parties like the big one in Sunset Beach.
“Superheroes” was the theme for this year’s Halloween celebration at The Nobles Family Community Center in Sunset Beach. “Updated with many, new animatronics and more games for kids to play, we put a lot of effort into making this year’s event better than ever,” said Tony Nobles, President of The Sunset Beach Community Association. The craft area was bustling, and the photo opportunities were extremely popular, as well, he said.
However, the most popular attractions were the giant comic book and Spiderman upside down room, according to the inventor, professor and kid-at-heart, he said.
Due to ongoing construction along the greenbelt, the pumpkin patch and the bounce house were relocated to the restaurant parking lot next door, thanks to property owners Eric and Elaine Bakker.
“It was awesome to see so many kids and adults enjoying the games, eating pizza and enjoying the bounce house during the entire event,” Nobles said. “Our Real-life superheroes, the fire and police were on hand giving free candy.
“I especially enjoyed seeing the majority of kids dressed in Superhero costumes, including a little boy, Chad Weiss, who spent a long time talking to Spiderman inside the scene area,” he said.
Nobles said annual production wouldn’t have been possible without his wife, Rhonda Nobles (President of Las Damas), who put in months of work planning, and the volunteers from Las Damas, the Weiss family (from Fountain Valley), and Cameron Helfman who all worked tirelessly to set up everything and to be there serving pizza, manning the bounce house and being the actors in the scenes.
