Rossmoor Woman’s Club members at the second annual Ice Cream Social are, from left to right, Susan Denley, Heidi Kent, Sue Pagett, Monica Pedroza, Kathryn Atkins, Veronica Gonzales, Nina Miller, Yolanda Vargas and Toddy Benjamin.

On Sunday, August 9, the Rossmoor Woman’s Club Helping Hands Section held their second annual Ice Cream Social on the shady front yard of member Heidi Kent’s home in Long Beach.

The purpose of this event was to gather members and the community at large to participate in donating non-perishable food items for the Food Finder’s organization.

The event also serves as a social time to meet and visit with others about the Rossmoor Woman’s Club  while having ice cream on a hot August Sunday afternoon.

With the help of Heidi’s neighbor, Brian Armstrong, the club was successful in delivering more than  360 pounds of food donations to the Food Finder’s headquarters in Los Alamitos.

The Rossmoor Woman’s Club is having an open house for prospective new members.  Whether you are curious to find out more about the club or ready to fill out a membership application, you are invited to attend!  The open house will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. RSVP to su*************@***il.com for the address and more details.  You don’t have to live in Rossmoor to join.

The club, founded in 1958, is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international social and philanthropic organization.  We  raise scholarship money for local students and support local charities through a combination of fundraising, in-kind donations and hands-on volunteer activities. We are best known for putting on the annual Rossmoor Holiday Home Tour in December and Spring Garden Tour in May.

Membership is open to all. For more information, visit www.rossmoorwomansclub.com.
