New addition to Expo is a blood drive with the American Red Cross

This Saturday, May 18, the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce will present the Be More Healthy Expo at the Seal Beach Pier. The 12th annual Expo is free, open to the public, and will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The theme of this year’s event is Diabetes and Thyroid Awareness.

A new addition to the Be More Healthy Expo is a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross. It will be held during the event, and you can sign up online now to participate. Giving blood is very important; it only takes 45 minutes of your time and can save lives. Per the Red Cross website, every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code “healthy expo” to schedule your appointment.

Expo Chair and Chamber member Diana Bean says, “We are so excited to promote personal health and increase understanding of the importance of seeking professionals for evaluation. Each year, there are individuals who participate in the screenings and are given results and increased awareness that can save their lives.”

There will be approximately 40 booths set up with vendors providing free health screenings. Western University is providing medication management advice and diabetes screening. OPTAVIA is providing BMI screening and health assessments. Doctors Oaxaca, Ong and Jensen are providing oral cancer screenings. There will also be screenings for stroke, thyroid, blood pressure and blood glucose. Free information will be provided on nutrition, heart health, heartburn, diabetes and medications.

On stage will be filled with a variety of live demonstrations and musician Michael Physick will perform.

All Expo vendors are proud members of the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce.

The Seal Beach Lions Club will also be on hand providing free reading glasses. There will be fun for the whole family, as there will be many activities for children and even a bounce house.

This important and exciting Expo would not be possible without the generous support of the sponsors, which are Optum Healthcare, CareMore, Los Alamitos Medical Center, Oaxaca, Ong and Jensen DDS, Scan Plan, Republic Services Main Street Cyclery and Sun News. Any additional vendors or sponsors who might be interested in participating are encouraged to contact the Chamber office right away as limited space is still available.
