The Seal Beach Police Department is investigating an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in Old Town on Friday, Aug. 11.
“There was what appeared to be a large fight between numerous individuals about 2:30 in the morning obviously in the Old Town area,” said Seal Beach Police Sgt. Steve Bowles.
He said the incident involved two groups of people who had been drinking that night. Police are re-interviewing witnesses.
He said one individual was injured. Bowles said the victim was taken to the hospital and later released. Bowles said he the victim has received additional medical treatment since then.
He said police have filed a report of a 245, which Bowles described as a felony assault.
Bowles said the investigation was an on-going.
California Penal Code 245 refers to assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the dispatch log or “incident report,” police first heard of the incident when dispatch received a call at 2:18 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, reporting a disturbance near Ocean Avenue and 4th Street. The caller said a group of 10 or more individuals had been in a physical fight. By the time of the call to police, the fight had reportedly become verbal. The group of suspects were walking northbound.
A second caller told police that the group was made up of 10 men in their 20s.
At 2:37 a.m., police believed one individual who was possibly involved was in the alley between 4th and 5th streets. He was described as a white man with no shirt.
A caller told police that the suspect hiding in the alley when officers arrived and that he was now walking northbound in the alley.
Police unit 241 took one individual into custody for public drunkenness.
Police unit 207 followed the ambulance carrying the victim. The victim’s name was blacked out in the log.
At 2:50 a.m., unit 242 reported detaining two suspects inside a location that was blacked out in the log.
At 2:56 a.m., unit 242 reported that four individuals had been detained.
At 2:57 a.m., unit 242 reported finding one individual hiding in the showers.
The log did not specify the type of weapon or weapons used in the assault.
