Kennedy Vega, 11, won first place in the Bay Hardware Surfing Santa Coloring Contest. She colored a drawing by local artist and art educator Bill Anderson of Anderson’s Art Gallery in Sunset Beach.

The familiar figure in the drawing is Michael Pless of M&M Surfing School of Seal Beach. He has been surfing in a Santa costume for many years at Seal Beach’s main beach in the shade of the Seal Beach pier. The contest was judged by Anderson, Pless and Bay Hardware’s Diana Brunjes.
