DESCRIPTION:On  Saturday\, April 24\,  2021 from 10  a.m. to 2 p.m. the  Seal Beach Police Department and the  Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will  give the public an  opportunity to prevent pill  abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired\, unused\, and unwanted prescription drugs. \nBring your pills for  disposal to the  front gate of Leisure World located at 13533 Seal Beach Boulevard.  The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps\, only pills or patches.  The service is free and anonymous\, no  questions asked. \nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are  highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse\, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the  U.S. are  alarmingly high\, as  are  the  number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are  obtained from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet. DESCRIPTION:Tickets are on sale now for the Rossmoor Woman’s Club’s annual moor. \nThe event was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19\, but it returns this year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday\, May 16\, with masks and social distancing required. \nThis will be the 17th year for the self-guided tour\, which features landscaping\, pools\, outdoor kitchens and more in five Rossmoor yards. \nIn addition\, shoppers can browse the pop-up Outdoor Marketplace for plants and outdoor decor\, refreshments and other wares sold by a variety of vendors. DESCRIPTION:The Seal Beach Lions Club recently announced that the old railroad crossing sign that used to stand near the Red Car Museum will be replaced. The old sign was severely damaged by termites. \nThe Lions will unveil the new sign at 4:45 p.m.\, Sunday\, May 16\, at the Red Car Museum on the Greenbelt\, next to the Mary Wilson Library. \nSeal Beach Lions Nate Kranda (who has excellent carpentry skills) led a group to craft the new railroad crossing sign. \nThe Seal Beach Lions invite all interested community members to come out to cheer on the unveiling of this new 12-foot high railroad crossing sign. \nThe Red Car is a part of Seal Beach history. The Lions Club\, according to First Fice President Scott Weir Seal Beach\, believes that community deserves the long-term preservation of all the community’s historical resources. The Lions Club\, according to Weir\, is looking forward to working with both the community and city government to reach that end.

SUMMARY:Turtle Trek at Los Cerritos Wetlands
DESCRIPTION:The Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust offers free nature walks in the Long Beach/Seal Beach wetlands. The walks are the first Saturday of each month from 8 to 10 a.m. The walks are led by naturalists and are appropriate for age 7 and above. Closed-toed shoes are required. Parking is available on the inland side of the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and 1st Street\, at the border of Long Beach and Seal Beach. \nAll walks focus on the history and future of the wetlands. Participants in the walks might see herons\, hawks\, hummingbirds and rabbits and will learn about native plants. The Raptor Ramble has information about how the Tongva Native Americans lived in and used the wetlands. The Heron Hike visits the Marketplace Marsh and ecologists discuss the reintroduction of tides and bringing water back into the land. Participants in the Turtle Trek hope for glimpses of the endangered Pacific Green Sea Turtles which have taken up residence in a portion of the San Gabriel River. \nThe Oct. 2 hike is the Turtle Trek. DESCRIPTION:Save Our Beach will be conducts a monthly beach clean-up on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at the beach parking lot at the end of 1st Street in Seal Beach. Parking in the 1st Street Beach lot is free during the clean-up.  Check in at the Blue Canopy on the Grass to receive a parking pass (required). \nPre-registering here will speed up the check in process for you and your family.  Each adult participant must register separately.  Minor children may register on a parent/guardian’s registration.
