Join the Centennial Beach Party and BBQ celebration on Aug. 22

Come one, come all to the best beach event of the year.  This event will start between 8:30 and 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, with a surf clinic on the Eighth Street beach given by M&M Surf School followed by surf lessons for kids.

This event will conclude by 11. Michael Pless Sr., who owns M&M Surf School, is doing this as a no cost event to the community.

The next event will be held at 9:30 a.m. and will be a beach volleyball clinic held on the Fourth Street beach given by Maria Fattal of the Seal Beach Volleyball Club.  This will be followed by a volleyball tournament with members of the SBVC with community involvement. A sand castle demonstration will be given by Dave Herbelin of “edutainmentarts” will start at 11a.m. on the Eighth Street beach.

This will be followed by sand castle building with kids involved and with the help of The Woman’s Club of Seal Beach.

The Woman’s Club of Seal Beach will provide new Centennial sand buckets and shovels for kids to use and take home.

A barbecue will be held on the Eighth Street Parking lot at noon and will be set up and cooked by the Seal Beach Lions.

We ask participants to enjoy, but not overwhelm the generosity of the Lions, as the food will last until the food runs out.

Again, thanks to the generosity of the Lions, the food is also free or at very minimal cost.

One of the traditions of being at the beach is of course playing horseshoes.

The signups for a horseshoe contest will begin at noon next to the lifeguard headquarters. The horseshoe competition will start around 12:30 p.m. and will be run by Marine Safety Chief Joe Bailey and the lifeguards.

At 1 p.m. next to the wall at the west end of the Eighth Street parking lot there will be bathing suits of the past on parade for the public to view.

The photo shoot will be coordinated by the History Chair Mike Dobkins, Celebrations Chair Marc Loopesko and Marketing Co-Chair Seth Eaker.

We encourage you to bring your kites and other beach toys so that you can enjoy a day at the beach.
