Seal Beach 'beepball' and derby hit a home run By Alison Cotter | Fri, May 27 2011 01:00 AM

The Seal Beach Pony Baseball League celebrated the end of a great season with the annual Home Run Derby, where players and parents compete for the biggest hit.  The league features 23 teams and more than 70 volunteer coaches and team staff.

The highlight of the day was a beepball game between the Braille Institute of Orange County and blind-folded players from the League’s Mustang Division.

“It was a great game and it was an overwhelming success,” said Scott Weir of the Seal Beach Lions Club that hosted the beepball game. “A few hundred dollars was raised for the Braille Institute the players all had fun and it brought an awareness that handicapped people live fulfilling lives.”

Derby prizes were donated by Play It Again Sports, Harbour Surfboards, Coach’s Grill, and Sweet 1017, while the Seal Beach Sea Lions grilled up some great food.
