Court case update: Lewd conduct trial set to start in September

Court Trial

A jury trial has been scheduled to start on Sept. 21 for a former Seal Beach youth sports coach charged with multiple counts of sexually abusing two children. The court has scheduled a trial readiness conference for Sept. 14.

Scott Durzo, who owned a youth sports camp business called the Total Sport Camp, is facing 20 counts that include lewd conduct with a child and one count of exhibiting lewd material to a minor. The charges are based on events that allegedly occurred between January 2003 and 2006 involving two individuals identified in court records as John Doe and John Doe 2. Durzo was originally charged on May 9, 2014. In June 2014, Durzo was released on $250,000 bail.

A judge ruled in late November 2015 that the case would go to trial.
