For a couple of decades now, I have been capturing the beauty of the Seal Beach coastline more than anyone else, probably in the history of Seal Beach. I have a vested financial and emotional interest in keeping seal beach clean and attractive.

To keep Seal Beach looking good and clean requires a lot of planning and a lot of resources. After reviewing the proposed plan, I believe it is the best available use of that land.

1) it will allocate plenty of area for activities to be shared by everyone.
2) it will bring in high income residents into the paying tax base of Seal beach, which will help the municipality run the city better.

The owners of this property LIVE in SB. They have raised their kids here. They have a lot of personal and financial interest tied into SB aside from this property. It's in their best interest to keep SB safe, clean and quaint.
Some people that oppose the plan might be concerned about their own property value dropping because of this plan:
1) Fact: Property values don’t drop because a high end development is taking place. It helps raise general property values.
2) The owners that own this land, own many other properties in SB. They have a lot more to lose if this argument was true. Yes, they can make some money on this one, but end up losing a lot more on their other properties if the values drop. They are more concerned about property values in SB than most of us and would not do anything to negatively impact that. simple self interest economics.

I think this plan is a fair, good and pragmactic plan for everyone in SB.

In a final note, i wish the small negative energy this issue has generated would be directed to issues that REALLY, negatively affect us. Like doing something about all the people that dump trash all over the pier every day. Or the losers that etch grafitti on doors and windows like they did on my own door. That stuff really impact the feel and image of SB, not building a nice park, biking trails and some expensive homes.

Just my opinion.
John

I've lived in Seal Beach since 1959. The City failed to acquire the DWP property when it was offered. I am happy to see that the people who did buy it are also RESIDENTS and have a vested interest in maintaining the integrity of the town.
