Fri, May 14 2010 04:47 PMMy children had their initial swimming lessons in the McGaugh pool, one was on the Seal Beach Swim Team for quite some time, and I use it for lap swim. Now my grandsons will be taking their 3rd year of lessons there. Save the pool!!!

Wed, May 12 2010 07:00 PMProud to say I was born and raised in Seal Beach and lived in the McGaugh pool from Mommy and Me lessons to competitive Seal Beach Swim Team while in high school. This aquatics program gave me and my friends the skills we needed to swim safely in the ocean. It encouraged a healthy lifestyle and kept me out of trouble. Now I enjoy bringing my children back to Seal in the summers. Our trip is not complete without a jump off the boards at McGaugh Pool.

Thu, May 06 2010 02:07 PMSave the pool... I am yet another one of thousands of people who grew up in the aquatics programs at McGaugh. From swimming lessons with All City Swim Meets to United States Swimming and Water Polo teams (both participant and coach later in national swimming career), I, like so many have benefitted greatly from the McGaugh Pool, the City of Seal Beach Recreation Department and the Seal Beach Swim Club.
The pool is a cornerstone of the community and has been in need of repairs for more than a decade. The aquatics programs have turned out amazing athletes, bolstered confidence in people of all ages and provided a healthy physical outlet for Seal Beach residents and beyond.
Yes, budgets are being cut right and left. This is one that has been on the docket for years and need NOT be ignored as an untimely expense. An overdue expense and a programming facility worth saving for so many reasons!!!

Fri, Apr 23 2010 09:22 AMI think the $100,000 would be better spent toward education not recreation.Budget cuts in the school system have taken its toll on our teachers and its a shame to waste that much money on a nonessential item. Want to go for a swim...try the Ocean....

Thu, Apr 22 2010 10:20 AMMcGaugh pool has been a great value to Seal Beach since 1965. I was on the original swim team that was a city/private cooperation at the time. Having a city pool enables and emphasizes the importance of being a competent swimmer in this ocean front city. The lessons given by the recreation department are recognized as some of the best programs in the State. In addition, hundreds of Seal Beach residents have gone on the compete at high school, college, national and even for the Olympic Team!
Keep this pool running and aggressive plan for its replacement well before the seven years are up.

Thu, Aug 04 2011 04:56 PMSave the pool! Even in the middle of dramatic budget cuts, it is important to make swimming programs available to the community. Learning how to swim should not be viewed as frivolous. The McGaugh pool is a basic part of our community.
