I would love for the city to find a way to rid the beach of these little guys with horrible stinging abilities. You can't do the "shuffle" when you're jumping over waves and kids run in and out of the water during the day without thinking of shuffleing every time. If one of my little ones was stung, they would probably never go in the ocean again, unfortunately. It is really painful!

That would be so cruel and inhumane. They are just trying to live a life like the rest of us. Maybe a big netting plan to pull/push them out, if that can be done safely...? They could possibly always end up coming back so you may need an on-going plan to lead them away periodically...and I can't see a periodical "killing" plan. What's that teaching our kids?

How would an "eradication"; program work? Rounding up the critters and euthanizing them? Putting poison in the water? This is the animal's habitat and us humans are encroaching. I agree with M. Loopesko: shuffle, and teach your children to shuffle.

Actually it's the warm water run-off from the generating plants up river that attract our friends to the 1st street jetty area. The plants are not going to shut down, so until then, just keep doing the famous "Seal Beach Stringray Shuffle" when you are swimming or surfing in that area !
