Old Town planning commissioner resigns

Seal Beach Planning Commission Vice Chair Deb Machen

The Planning Commission representative for District One (Old Town and Surfside Colony) resigned Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Deb Machen will step down effective Nov. 1.

She said that she and her husband Bob Machen are moving to the uncorporated community of Rossmoor, where her family members live. Machen said she will remain on the boards of Run Seal Beach, Save Our Beach and Friends of the Library.

She will will continue her work on the Thanksgiving Dinner, helping Chair Tim Way.

In her letter of resignation to the city clerk, outgoing Planning Commissioner Machen said, “Serving as a representative of this amazing community has been an honor and a learning experience I will always cherish. Inclosing, I sincerely wish city staff and planning commissioners the very best of luck with the future work of the Commission.”

Machen has been on the comission for three years, first representing the Hill (District Three) until she and her husband moved to Old Town in 2015. Then she became the District One planner.
