Golden Boot Award and Masquerade Ball

Honoring Our Fallen, a non-profit organization, invites the public to join them for their Masquerade Ball to be held Saturday, Nov. 21. If you’ve ever thought about doing something for the troops, we would like to share with you a unique way of giving back to the soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country. Many of these fallen heroes have families back home who are left without their loved ones.

Guests will enjoy an elegant evening of dinner, live entertainment, and special “Golden Boot Award” presentation. All of the event proceeds support programs and services provided to the families of our nation’s heroes who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

This year our Golden Boot Award will be awarded to Gayle Anderson of KTLA 5, and Gerrie Shipske, President of the Rosie the Rivetier Foundation and former Long Beach Councilwoman. The “Golden Boot Award” is awarded to individuals, businesses, and organizations that have gone above and beyond assisting Honoring Our Fallen in our service to the children and families of our nation’s fallen. We don’t do what we do alone, and cannot thank them enough for their support and dedication to the families we serve.

Honoring Our Fallen works daily to assist the families and children of our Fallen Heroes by working with like-minded non-profit organizations. While there is nothing we can do to bring back their loved ones, we can do a lot towards bringing comfort to the families here at home by letting them know that there is a community of support right on their doorstep.

I am so excited that Honoring Our Fallen can host this event. We will bring families of our fallen, sponsors, and our community together  to honor those that have helped us further our mission in giving back to families whose loved one paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Masquerade Ball tickets are still available at www.honoringourfallen.org. To get involved and sponsor and or volunteer for this event call Laura Herzog at 714-904-0253.

Fun with Red Hatters

The Jolly Jill Red Hat Society’s Halloween party recently was terrific. Members donned Halloween outfits and the colorful decorations enhanced the spirit. Everyone had fun socializing.

President Penny Rahming discussed some upcoming events.

Carmen Leslie, chairman of the games was busy explaining  how to play. It was exciting. Sharp shooters tried their luck. The tiny balls were not that easy to handle. Charade players must have good ears to listen to the music when it stopped. Thrilling. Of course there were winners and losers. At any rate, the excitement throughout the game was immensely hilarious.

Pleasant atmosphere and spooky spirits were manifested. The beauty of friendships and happiness is surely around to enjoy.

Not a fan of blue beach cottage

Is it just me or does anyone else dislike the “historic beach cottage” that was relocated to the greenbelt? I don’t recall being invited to any public forum before the city committed $60 to $70,000 toward this project.

By the time contractors shore up and replace all the rotted wood on this thing any historical significance will be lost.

I understand the residents of 8th Street don’t like looking at it either and the city is studying moving it again closer to our charming Red Car Museum. Clearly this project was ill conceived, poorly planned, and rushed through without any public input.

Someone needs to step up and admit this shack is an eyesore. It needs to be relocated all right, preferably to the dump.
