Tue, Jun 11 2013 11:08 PMThank you for this story! I hope that they provide College Park East with an escape route immediately! No neighborhood should be trapped in an emergency simply because a project in another area was brought up first.

Thu, Jun 06 2013 07:34 PMGreat assortment of succulents in varying sizes. Prices for these were very reasonable. The large ceramic pots on sale, even though marked 50% off, were extremely expensive. The fellow helping us was very nice but knew very little about gardening. However, I would revisit your nursery because of your wide selection of plants. :-)

Wed, May 29 2013 09:24 PMThe Los Alamitos Parks Commission will meet Wed, June 5 at 7 pm, in City Council Chambers (3191 Katella Ave), to consider changing the current dog leash laws for parks in Los Alamitos. According to the Los Al city website: "Los Alamitos Municipal Code § 6.16.100 requires that you keep your dog on a leash when on any public street, park, or other public place. Dogs must be kept on leash when in City Parks. To enjoy your pet off-leash, go to a dog park or other area which has been designated for that purpose. Arbor Dog Park is located off Lampson Avenue, east of Seal Beach Blvd."
I encourage residents to attend this meeting to voice their opinion and concerns about changing the law, so that dogs can run loose at parks. A simple cost-benefit analysis shows one benefit (fun for dogs) and 10+ costs (city liability, bites, trips/falls, confrontations, additional fencing, feces removal, etc).
I have been bitten numerous times by dogs off-leash, my kids have been knocked off their bikes by dogs off-leash, and my pregnant wife was forced to stand between our children and a growling, barking dog. Our city cannot afford to pay off lawsuits from dog attacks at our parks and neighborhoods. Nobody wants their child to be injured. There is already a dog park at Arbor Dog Park a mile away, so please use it if you want your dogs to run off-leash.

Sun, May 19 2013 11:04 AMSo the SB police are now going to hassle bicyclists and this will be a focused effort of the department? Wow! Serve the community or piss the community off...we shall see.

Thu, Apr 25 2013 07:06 PMCredit the Police department for installing this checkpoint on a Thursday during the peak of rush hour traffic on a street that has no bypass and critical for commuters. What a ridiculous mess. As if the construction traffic wasn't bad enough. Is there some new trend I'm not aware of? Who drinks on Thursday afternoons? If things have gotten this bad, it's time for Seal Beach to stop issuing liquor licenses.

Mon, Apr 08 2013 12:42 PMSince I can't find the Cypress Senior Lunch story online and it seems all your mailboxes dump into editor@sunnnews.org, I can only hope you'll pass this on to Terri Quinlan.
It was a great article. I'd like to also suggest going a step further and profile the other services available in Seal Beach and separately in Los Al.
SeniorSer.org has 26 centers (seems Cypress is one) that A) serve lunch five days a week and B) send out via Meals on Wheels full day food to homebound seniors.
There is the Los Alamito Senior Center (10909 Oak St.) and North Seal Beach Senior Center (3333 St. Cloud Dr.).
All the info is available at www.communityseniorserv.com/program-a-services/congregate-lunch-program.html
Good luck

Thu, Mar 14 2013 10:07 AMGreat Job Seal Beach! Looks like the City Council got what they wanted to begin with. No Ruby's on the Pier! Way to run a business out of town, you should be proud.

Mon, Mar 11 2013 03:31 PMI have no idea how much it would cost, but I would love to see an outdoor dining deck built above the fishing area around the pier restaurant.

Tue, Feb 26 2013 09:30 AMPlease tell me how the City "Made a Gift" of the Ocean front real estate. Seems to me that BCP "Made a Gift" to the City of Seal Beach in giving 6.5 acres of land to the City of Seal Beach. Re-zoning is not a gift! The City has re-zoned other properties in the city. Let's not downplay the real gift giver here. Why not re-phrase it and call it what it is/was, a compromise, not a gift.
