Seal Beach Police arrest attempted carjacking suspect

Seal Beach Police Department

On Monday, July 31, the Seal Beach Police officers arrested a Los Angeles man on suspicion of attempted carjacking. Earlier in the day the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Seal Beach Police Department regarding a call of a suspicious person on or near the 405 freeway at the Seal Beach Boulevard exit. Officers responded, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Several hours later, security officers from the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station observed a suspect trespassing on the military base. They requested the assistance of the Seal Beach Police, and as they were tracking the suspect, he climbed over the perimeter fence. The man, who was later identified as Elin Carrillo-Hernandez, 43, ran onto Seal Beach Boulevard, near the Leisure World retirement community, and traffic stopped for the fleeing suspect and pursuing officers. Carrillo-Hernandez approached a stopped car and attempted to force his way into the car. Carrillo-Hernandez was unable to gain access to the car and officers apprehended him soon after.

Carrillo-Hernandez was arrested and booked at the Orange County jail on suspicion of attempted carjacking, resisting arrest and possession of illegal paraphernalia.
