The Seal Beach Police Department is conducting an administrative investigation of an officer involved shooting that took place Sunday following a police pursuit of a suspect in a fatal hit and run that took place in Anaheim. No police officers were injured during the shooting. The suspect was also unharmed. Police have not released the names of either the officer or the suspect.
On Sunday, March 19, 2017, at approximately 5:40 am, Seal Beach Police officers responded to assist with the pursuit of a hit and run suspect. The suspect vehicle had been identified as possibly being involved in a hit and run fatality that occurred in unincorporated Anaheim.
The Anaheim Police Department and the California Highway Patrol pursued the suspect vehicle across Orange County and into the City of Seal Beach. The suspect crashed near the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Boulevard. According to Sgt. Michael Henderson, the department’s public informaiton officer, the suspect got out of the car and simulated having a gun. A responding Seal Beach Officer fired his gun at the suspect. There were no injuries to the officer or the suspect, and the suspect was taken into custody.
The criminal investigation of the hit and run is being handled by the California Highway Patrol. The Seal Beach Police Department is conducting an administrative investigation into the officer involved shooting.
