Seal Beach Boulevard DUI checkpoint tonight

The Seal Beach Police Department will be hosting a DUI and Diver’s License checkpoint tonight, Friday, Aug. 16, beginning at 6 p.m. The checkpoint will be in the northbound lanes of Seal Beach Boulevard, just south of Adolpho Lopez. The checkpoint will close around 2 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17. The Seal Beach Police Department pays for checkpoints by using grant money from the California Office of Traffic Safety, so it does not impact their operational budget.  The checkpoint staff is supplemented by volunteers from all three of the VIP, RACES, and CERT programs.

Cars are selected for secondary screening on a random basis.  Based on the volume of traffic, police vary the selection process by a several different methods.  It may be five cars into the checkpoint and the next five pass, or every three car gets selected for the checkpoint, or just about any variation thereof. Police monitor the number of cars screened, and the volume of traffic impacted by the checkpoint.

Arrests made during past checkpoints have varied from driver’s license violations to felony drug charges.  The Seal Beach Police Department appreciates the community’s patience as they work to keep Seal Beach safe.
