Purim concert at Old Ranch March 8

Staff report

It all started in a small theater in Los Alamitos when a young rabbi and his brother did a benefit show for the rabbi’s Hebrew High school.

What happened next? Lincoln Center NYC, American Airlines Arena FL, City Walk Universal Studios, CBS Studios, Studio City, KTLA Morning Show, and over 1 million hits on YouTube.

In fact, the #1 song played on Israeli radio comes from the rabbi’s Los Alamitos-based band called 8th Day.

You might say the worldwide Yalili fever started right here at Chabad of Los Alamitos.

Soon, the annual Purim Concert in Seal Beach will feature the band.

“The concert will celebrate the joyous holiday of Purim and will therefore include stand-up comedian Mike Preminger and TV’s sensation Eric Schwartz,” said Rabbi Shmuely Marcus of Chabad and the founder with his brother of 8th Day.

The concert will be held March 8, at the Old Ranch Country Club (3901 Lampson Ave. Seal Beach. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the concert at 6 p.m. There will be a cash bar open till 9 p.m.

8th Day has become Jewish music’s hottest new rock band. Rabbi Shmuely and Bentzy Marcus have three studio albums that get airplay on New York Radio and Israeli Radio. They have played hundreds of shows across the country and will be playing with three-time Grammy nominee and Emmy Award-winning bassist Philip Bynoe.

Bynoe is best known for his work with virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai.

The Marcus brothers capture a fresh and totally unique sound, the likes of which the Jewish music scene had never encountered. Its harmonies have a distinctive flavor, a modern appeal with plenty of wild color.

Their new album, “8th Day – Chasing Prophecy,” will feature Phil Bynoe (Velvet revolver) Matt Thorne (Trapt) Dave Donelly (Shrek 2) Leo Chelyapov (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

It is being called one of the best albums in recent Jewish history. The CD will be on sale at the event.

Tickets for the Purim Concert are: $18 Per Adult (Kids are Free) $180 – Co-Sponsor, $500 Event Co-Sponsor, $1000 – L’Chaim Sponsor.
