Awards were given during an All Hands Ceremony at the Headquarters Building on Sept. 20. A pennant was also raised for winning the Installation Excellence Award for Small Installation, giving Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach bragging rights as the best small base in the Navy.

• This Saturday, September 29th, from 9:00 am till noon, volunteers of all ages will assemble wooden prefabricated bat boxes for placement around the installation. The boxes will be used by a variety of native species including the pallid bat and the western mastiff - both California Species of Special Concern.

This event is in celebration of National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. For more information, call (760) 731-3609.

• The Multicultural Committee will be observing Hispanic Heritage month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, at the Bachelor Quarters.

They are also looking for people to bring food for the potluck.
