Our family will miss Woody’s

We have lived in Seal Beach for 5 years and have always enjoyed dining at Woody’s on Main Street. We recently discovered that a restaurant called El Ranchito will be replacing Woody’s in June 2015.  What a terrible mistake.  There are already five Mexican restaurants on Main Street. We understand that the property where Woody’s is located was being leased and El Ranchito people offered to pay more for the lease; so the property was leased to them without even asking Woody’s for a counter-offer … looks like money talked on this deal.

We won’t visit the new restaurant just because of the way this went down and from what we hear, there’s a lot of other people who won’t either.  We will drive to Sunset or Huntington Beach to visit the Woody’s there.

We know you have nothing to do with this change; but it makes me feel good to vent.

We just wish people had a bit more pride in home-town atmosphere … which Woody’s has always offered.  There’s not another restaurant like it; my family looks forward to visiting us in Seal Beach just to go to Woody’s… not any more. We’ve tried to keep our business here in Seal Beach, but lots of things have moved out, making it difficult to keep spending our money in our “home-town”…pretty sad.

Loved Family Science Day

I volunteered at the Family Science Day at Rossmoor Elementary; it was a three hour event for the elementary school students and their families. The principal, Kiva Spiratos approved the event and supported the enthusiasm via the Weekly Spirit Assemblies. The Friends of Rossmoor provided the funding for the event.

Beth Ellis, the passionate former science teacher at Rossmoor Elementary and now third-grade teacher at Rossmoor Elementary has been the chief technical person for putting this events lab experiments together for the third time. I think it is important to instill the Science curiosity in our youthful students.

I got involved because of having a granddaughter in kindergarten at Rossmoor Elementary. My two grown up children went to Rossmoor Elementary as well. My daughter volunteered at the event as a parent in the Human Body room. I volunteered in the Electricity and Static Electricity Room. The real sizzle was the rockets going off with Soda and Mentos.

The other rooms were: Ph Plankton, Microscopes, Magnets  Electromagnets, Outer Space  Light Energy, Building Bottle Rockets, Straw Rockets  Airplanes, Chemistry, Bubble Rockets and Habitats (Live Animals).

All this for kid’s exposure and touching science. I applaud all the volunteers (parents and high school students) and the parents of the students who took their kids around the classrooms to the many hands-on lab activities. It was a moving three hour Sunday activity that should be continued. Please give your thanks and acknowledgement to Friends of Rossmoor, Kiva Spiratos and Beth Ellis for creating a special day.
