So the SB police are now going to hassle bicyclists and this will be a focused effort of the department? Wow! Serve the community or piss the community off...we shall see.

Suspect was taken down by the off duty officer and then a citizen came and assisted the officer by holding the robber down till police arrived.

Credit the Police department for installing this checkpoint on a Thursday during the peak of rush hour traffic on a street that has no bypass and critical for commuters. What a ridiculous mess. As if the construction traffic wasn't bad enough. Is there some new trend I'm not aware of? Who drinks on Thursday afternoons? If things have gotten this bad, it's time for Seal Beach to stop issuing liquor licenses.

Since I can't find the Cypress Senior Lunch story online and it seems all your mailboxes dump into editor@sunnnews.org, I can only hope you'll pass this on to Terri Quinlan.

It was a great article. I'd like to also suggest going a step further and profile the other services available in Seal Beach and separately in Los Al.

SeniorSer.org has 26 centers (seems Cypress is one) that A) serve lunch five days a week and B) send out via Meals on Wheels full day food to homebound seniors.

There is the Los Alamito Senior Center (10909 Oak St.) and North Seal Beach Senior Center (3333 St. Cloud Dr.).

All the info is available at www.communityseniorserv.com/program-a-services/congregate-lunch-program.html

Good luck

Great Job Seal Beach! Looks like the City Council got what they wanted to begin with. No Ruby's on the Pier! Way to run a business out of town, you should be proud.

I have no idea how much it would cost, but I would love to see an outdoor dining deck built above the fishing area around the pier restaurant.

Please tell me how the City "Made a Gift" of the Ocean front real estate. Seems to me that BCP "Made a Gift" to the City of Seal Beach in giving 6.5 acres of land to the City of Seal Beach. Re-zoning is not a gift! The City has re-zoned other properties in the city. Let's not downplay the real gift giver here. Why not re-phrase it and call it what it is/was, a compromise, not a gift.

The Sunset Beach Jr. Lifeguard Program is probably the sole reason I am where I am today. Without the skills that I learned and the experienced that was shared with me throughout this program, I would have never been given the spark to become a professional lifeguard, never been given the tools I needed to succeed, the confidence given to me to go out and join the United States Navy. This program had such a huge impact on me that if I was able to, I'd do anything in my power to help keep it alive. I personally came down and talked to the kids and exercised and gave out speeches regarding my accomplishments. I believe that without this program I would not have been able to save the 70+ individuals throughout my two years of being an Orange County Life Guard. Please don't let this program die, and have my eleven year old sister whom of which is going through it right now not be able to go through the same experiences I've been able to have. If there's anything I can do to help out with this program PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

This is one of the best schools in the Long Beach area. The teachers are all competent and love their students. The administration always has the students' best interests in mind.

I read all that is written so far about Ruby's Diner on the Pier. My family has owned and managed commerical property for many years and we also have a free standing building with a nationally known tenant inside. Both the City and the Diner are both responsible. Most leasses do provide that the Tenant pay all expenses and keep up the integrity of the building. However, it is also the responsibility of the City to give notice to the tenant during the tenancy to maintain those items that are not being addressed as the lease specifies and not wait until the last few months of the lease or even the last fews years to cry about it & demand $400,000 at the end. City of Seal Beach would not send out a RFP(request for proposal) unless they were not exactly being serious about having Ruby's Diner stay on the Pier. Having a restaurant on the Pier is not easy. The weather surely diminishes the building at a faster pace compared to being more inland. Many buildings on Piers up and down the coast look good when they are weathered somewhat on the outside. Wasn't it the City and conerned groups that wanted to rebuild the old pier that was destroyed many years ago during the storms with the same old original look rather than go with the concrete look such as the Cities of Huntington Beach and Long Beach? The City Council just doesn't get it when it comes to name recognition. Ruby's has a place on the most Southern Califoria Piers and they are consider a staple for such locations. Just having another family restaurant just doesn't cut it for most and I would predict any other new restaurant might not make it. I would suggest they all get out of their golden seats and start talking like human beings and not politicians. It's all about the people who visit and live here.
