Cow Chips raise money

John Barnes football field at Los Alamitos High is well known as the home of The Griffins.

At noon on Saturday Jan. 16, the Griffins had to “mooove” over to accommodate three Holstein cows on their football field!

The Grand Prize winner Constance B (last name witheld), left, from Seal Beach reacts to her $755 winnings from Cow Chip Bingo.

Cow Chip Bingo was the solution to a school’s budget situation. It was meant to help support the award-winning Los Alamitos High School Marching Band, Drumline & Color Guard.

More than 3,000 “land deed parcels “were sold for a $5.00 donation.

The athletic field was laid out in a grid of 6,000 numbered parcels (randomly assigned).  These numbers correspond to ticket numbers displayed on a computer print out chart. While the crowed waited to view the poo there were many carnival activities in which to participate along with live performances from the Brass, Pit, Drumline and Color Guard of the Los Alamitos Entertainment Unit.

The Los Alamitos High School Band Booster’s Cow Chip event was set off by the appearance of the cow mascot and the Miss Cow Chip for a day Janet Congel seen here.

The high school’s Principal Dr Litfin and others were the official judges to measure and record the three plops and announce the three winners:

1st plop winner $251.67 Lavieen. S from Rossmoor

2nd plop winner $503.33 Byron W. from Cypress

3rd plop Grand prize $755 won by Constance B. from Seal Beach.
