City speed limits, pier on Monday’s City Council agenda

The Seal Beach City Council is expected to look at citywide speed limits as well as discuss costs related to reopening the end of the pier at the Monday, Feb. 22 meeting.

About speed limits: The council is scheduled to hold a public hearing to review the 2016 City-Wide Engineering and Traffic Survey. The survey will include recommendations to keep or change speed limits in Seal Beach.

About the pier: At last week’s meeting, Community Development Director Jim Basham told the council that staff would have a report on expected pier costs. Those costs would include demolishing the building that once housed Ruby’s and improving the pier’s fire suppression system.

City staff is also expected to also provide the council with cost estimates for building restrooms at the end of the pier. To date, the council has only indicated that the building at the end of the pier should be demolished and mandatory repairs be made to the pier.
