Surfside beach set to reopen at 4 p.m. today

The Surfside beach is scheduled to reopen at 4 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 9, according to Joe Bailey, chief of the Seal Beach Marine Safety Department. The beach was closed Thursday due to the reported sighting of an aggressive shark off Sunset Beach.

“Yesterday afternoon a shark was spotted at 23rd Street in Sunset Beach,” Chief Bailey said. “This shark displayed aggressive behavior charging at a surfer. Huntington Beach City Lifeguards closed Sunset Beach for 24 hours based on this event.   Seal Beach Lifeguards closed Surfside waters due to the close proximity of this event to Surfside and following our adopted shark policy.  Surfside water will reopen today at 4 p.m.”
