On Tuesday, the City of Seal Beach executive team collected trash along the coastline to publicize the importance of keeping the beach clean. The team collected a number of items from the beach including a variety of plastic containers, cigarette butts, and plastic foam. The recent rain transported debris down the San Gabriel River and deposited the debris in the ocean, which the tide then carried to our coastline.
“Beach debris is more than an eyesore, it can directly harm human and sea life,” said City Manager Jill Ingram. “Plastics, cigarette butts, food wrappers, etc., do not decay and become absorbed by the environment. They just break into smaller pieces. This pollution is totally preventable. We encourage others to volunteer with Save Our Beach and/or the Surfrider Foundation to help keep our beach healthy and clean.”
