Seal Beach gears up for Christmas Parade By Seth Eaker | Tue, Nov 19 2013 03:26 PM

Though we haven’t even gotten through Thanksgiving yet, the parade line up for the 35th annual Seal Beach Christmas Parade, themed “Surf, Sand and Santa” is complete.

More than 3,600 people are in the parade along with the most robust support of local sponsors ever.  They include: Southland Credit, Run Seal Beach, O’Malley’s on Main, The Hangout, SKS Insurance, Bob’s Rexall, Philips Steel, C&S Welding, Inc., Schooner at Sunset, Woody’s Diner, Rocky & Deborah Gentner, the City of Seal Beach, Baytown Realty and Sun News.

Grand Marshal Dee Carey will be followed by the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, and Junior Grand Marshal Evan Jenkins precedes all of our senior elected officials.  In addition, Evan was recently named International Leo of the Year for all of Lions International.

Also new this year, parade chairman, Scott Newton made an effort to get nearly every organization to have their “Man & Woman of the Year” included in the parade.  “It is a unique opportunity in the year to connect all of our wonderful organizations together and recognize as a community these individual’s accomplishments not only in their own groups,” he said.

Enhanced sponsorship has allowed the event to not only have more lighting thanks to Run Seal Beach, but also the entry contest, which has trophy sponsors this year.

The five categories will be evaluated by numerous judges will be scattered along both sides of the parade route from Ocean Ave. to PCH. So as not to miss a judging opportunity, entries should perform continuously from start to finish.

Prizes will be award for each category with the winners announced within a few days of the parade. Winners will be recognized at the Seal Beach Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10am – Marina Center. Up to four representatives from each winning group may attend the breakfast as our guests. If you have any question, call Contest Coordinator Jo Dawson at (562) 280-9867.
